Here's another one in the not often imaged category, the galaxy NGC 5102. I suspect people are put off by the close proximity to magnitude 2.7 Iota Centauri. I took an image of this some years back and it appeared relatively featureless but this time I was able to bring out subtle dust lanes. I'm told that deep Ha and OIII exposures of this thing are rewarding but I haven't had a chance to get that data yet.
Cheers
Steve

A nice clean looking image there Steve. I think I can see the dust lanes on my screen here at work but I'll have to chek'em out on my superior screen at home to confirm.

Nice work, Steve. Some very subtle details.

Thanks Rick. Subtle is definitely the appropriate term.
Thanks Mike. They certainly aren't that easy to see.

A good image there Steve. There's a hint of some dust near the core.

Thanks Greg. I found a Hubble image that shows it quite well.

What we like is the very visible detail in some of the tiny, distant background galaxies. Razor sharp. Beautiful work.

Hi I Steve,
Good work!!
Good to document this one.....even if it isn't a more spectacular galaxy.
Well done!
Cheers,
Tim

Thanks Tim. I imaged a few years back too but this image is definitely better
Thanks M&T. I still like the subtle detail in the main galaxy too. My last image of it just showed a featureless blob.

I suspect you're right about people being put off by Iota Centauri, Steve. Good work though, as M&T says, very sharp and lots of nice background galaxies!

that is a wonderful image Steve. It is a very beautiful galaxy and your handling of it and the background are spot on. The star is not distracting at all - adds a lot of interest.

Thanks Ray. It came out much better than I expected. My last picture of it from several years back was very forgettable.
Thanks Lee. It's certainly an interesting field.

That's very good Steve. I think the bright near by star adds to the image s well.
