woah! who'd have picked it hey!
who was out viewing last night (sunday)?

about 7pm i carried the tripod of my heq5 out into the backyard, cheryl looks at me... "what you doing?" to which i look ap at the sky and state "TIS CLEAR!!!! :D". after plonking the tripod down in what i think is close to the SCP direction I get my trusty spirit level out (i have a very uneven yard).

"DINNER TIME!!!"

gah! i quickly throw the telescope on and balance before settling down to home made chicken burgers and salad. then head inside and wait for darkness after setting up the power suply and lappy...

as darkness hits i star my alignment routinewich is a drift align for the impatient:lol: . it not particularly acurate or fast ibut i get there.

I am at a bit of a weird stage at the moment, half way between imaging and visual. i have cartes up on the lappy along with word pad which i am taking notes on for my next seeing double, but the lure of the LPI is strong an i plug it in. a small avi is taken of rigel that turns out not bad but my focus was out a bit. i run a few shots on m42 with a LPR filter on just too see what is like. not bad but it does dim the nebular a bit and 20 x 16 second exposures doesnt bring out as much detail as i hoped  so i go back to visual and pick off a few doubles....

its only at this stage doi realise just how good the conditions are and how perfect my collimation is! I'm sitting there watching a 6th mag star and the defraction rings around it are absolutely perfect. i move to the trap and six stars boom out at me. theres no ifs or maybes, all are present and accounted for. I spent the rest looking at a few more doubles in teh area having a ball.:)

at about 10:45 cheryl starts making noises and realising i have work the next day i head in...

man it was good out there! its suprising what good seeing will do!

ihope you all were out there too :D
:hi:

Stargard was fantastic too David. Yippee!

A very nice night indeed. The air was stable, so even things like Rigel Kentaurus were easily resolved into the double - which had not been possible for me lately. Seeing was generally very good.

Can't wait for the forest on the weekend now..... :)

Cheers

Good to hear you had a great time out last night too Dave. I spent a few hours just cruizing with no plan in particular as its been so long since I have had the scope out.

My better half started making noises later in the evening about work tomorrow and how getting the kids up is enough without chasing me as well. Isn't it great to have a time keeper so we can focus on the important things in life :)

See ya
