I posted a first shot at processing a quick & dirty attempt at Omega Cen last night. I wasn't happy with it and a few people suggested a few small changes; I had another shot using a very different processing method and am much happier with the result.

90 x 20-second subs, 30 each at ISO 800, 1600 and 3200. Stacked into 3 TIFs using DSS, then those three TIFs stacked again into one. Processed a little before exporting to Lightroom for a final tweak.

It wasn't guided, I didn't even drift align - just pointed it vaguely south - so some stretchy stars, but happier with the processing. Also delighted how low the noise is considering no darks or bias. (No flats either, because I've never yet had success using them - without fail they've completely ruined my images every time I've tried. No idea why.)

Anyway, does this look okay to you? It's certainly a lot better than my first attempt but I'm struggling with the colour. Suggestions encouraged as always.

 Better star colour, removed red cast in black (looks cleaner), nice glow around the core and the wider field of view definitely adds more depth. I think it's a great improvement from your first attempt. Very impressive and well done.

Great image when you just align the polar axis just roughly.
Don't you have a polar scope ?
If you have, just put the +6.9 star BQ Octantis in the center.
Easy !

I see what you mean (In the other thread) about things looking a little stretchy in the corners, but I do like it better, framed like it is here. I think it conveys much more of an impression of denseness in the core.

And it looks good to me too.

If you want try a quick way to get a pretty good PA, have a look at SharpCap. Your QHY 5L ii should work with it I think.

Blue stars are not so evident in this version.
