My wife is wanting to go to the Cairns/Atherton Tableland region in mid June for some event she is interested in, so I'm considering packing the astro gear to take with us on a driving trip up from Brisbane to keep myself occupied. :)

I'm not exactly sure where we'll be as her event locations are still in planning, however are there are good, easily accessible imaging places in the area that don't require hours of driving to get to?

What would be a good northern target to try for at this time that I'd never be able to get from Brisbane (for reference I can barely see M31)? I want to do LRGB and I'll be imaging at 700mm (F6.5). I think I'll be able to set up over multiple nights but to be safe, I'd like to ensure I get enough data in one night for at least one completed image.

Any suggestions?

Plug the approx lat/long and date into Stellarium and have a search for targets. I tend to do that a lot.

Yeah, I had already done that, but I thought I would ask for suggestions anyway since I'm also looking for somewhere to setup as well. Thanks anyway.
