Just putting this up as a discussion thread for the upcoming new moon period.
It can be anything you want, from dark site camping, private property visits, Pony Club EOI, etc.
NSW school holidays end on ANZAC day, the 25th, the New Moon is on the 26th, so any time after the 25th, and through that last weekend should be free of the holiday crowds. Weather permitting, and don't we deserve some clear New Moon sky?

I could do local, weekend only. Saving leave (and money) for visit to NZ in November, celebrating 35th anniversary with a cruise and a week in and around Rotorua.

The forecast for the weekend of 28-30th looks good, but can it be trusted.

I'd be willing to come out of hiding for a PC visit.
Weather permitting of course. I will wait until a little closer, to make a call on it though.

A long overdue get together would be nice.
However, "CFN" [website (http://www.cloudfreenight.com/index.php)] does not indicate a cloudfree night unfortunately.
Furthermore, "Clear Outside" [website (http://clearoutside.com/forecast/-33.34/151.16)] corroborates this.
Hopefully this will change again before Saturday.
Edit: Prediction has already started to look better. cloud cover down to 20% .
Keep watching. Keep your calendars free in case.

In most weather forecasts "clear" really means "not raining". has no correlation to cloud cover.

So what are you suggesting, Allan?
Leave the scopes at home, and everyone bring rum and an umbrella?

At least that's a safe bet ! Add a nice fire, a block of fruit & nut choc and a thermos of green tea.

The last two days of brilliant clear daytime sky, under the infuence of the high pressure area, quickly deteriourated at sunset into cloud both nights, and even some drizzle last night. I don't understand how it can go bad so fast. West to south-west breeze should keep the coast clear. Maybe it has do with the warmer sea creating convection as the land cools off at sunset, when the breeze died off. Local conditions once again eh? Very frustrating.
Good luck over the next two nights at the PC.
I bet Bretti has been brilliant but too late for me.

Simple - the clue is the constantly high humidity even when it's clear during the day. There's so much humidity - even in the air blowing in from the west - that when the sun sets and the air cools, the moment the air temp drops below the dew point the clouds form.
Yet by day the sun has enough heat to warm the air to the point we have a nice fine day...

Well ...the humidity during the daytime for the past two days has been in the 40% area, and today again it is 40%, on the back of the dry west, southwest airflow. I don't consider 40% high. I do agree that sun set and dropping temps, and the dropping breeze, are a factor but still think the offshore coastal cloud, which was visible on the Sat photos, creaps in on the back of the convection change.
Sunrise, which are traditionally high humidity periods here by the Lake, dawned perfecty clear.

Not looking good for Sat night by the sound of it. I might stay at home and get the grab and go out.

I don't want to go it alone (again), so am waiting for expressions of interest from others.
The forecasts are mixed, but it looks like there will be some viewing opportunities.
Freezer suit weather, normally a good sign.
