As part of my Grad.Dip.Ed (Secondary), I have to come up with ways in which Aboriginal culture can be included into science education.
While researching my assignment I came across a PhD thesis by a Perth astronomer, John Goldsmith. It is called
Cosmos, culture and landscape : documenting, learning and sharing Aboriginal astronomical knowledge in contemporary society

Link: https://espace.curtin.edu.au/handle/20.500.11937/665

I haven't read it all but found the bits I did read very interesting.

Cheers,
Dan

Hi all
Paul Curnow who runs the planetarium in Adelaide is also regarded one of the worlds leading experts on Aboriginal astronomy.
I found a link to one of his websites

Some years ago I bought a Planisphere called Aboriginal Sky Figures from the ABC shop. It is based on Aboriginal Dreamtime Stories researched and related by Gaparingu Naputa Aboriginal elder, with astronomical information from Gordon Patston FRAS. It is one of my prized pieces of astro gear and relates some wonderful Aboriginal stories of the major constellations.
It has an ISBN 0-7333-0470-2 don't know if it still available but worth a try.
Here are a couple of pics.

I think this was in some other show on ABC not so long ago, where the settlements in outback Australia originated from the stars and they had water n things. and they would migrate navigating by the stars. it was awesome ... thanks I'll watch it (again) maybe
