Well, the CWAS excursion to Mudgee Observatory yesterday, went very well. Contrary to the weather forecast and our own expectations, the weather was fine throughout the day. We had a great time.

On our arrival around 12:20 PM, we were greeted by John Vetter and several other friends, including Steve Quirk, Robert McNaught, Kevin Cooper and a few others. We checked out the many domes John has set up on his site. One of particular interest was the dome containing Chris Toohey’s C14, which is very similar to the society’s C14. We were interested to see how it was mounted.

The observatory that caught all our eyes, was the roll-off roof observatory. We were fascinated to see how it was constructed since it is similar to what we are planning to house our C14 in.

John then hosted us to a barbecue lunch which was cooked on his pink piggy barbecue. We had long chats with everyone and we came away with a better understanding of what we are planning.

The CWAS members who travelled to Mudgee were Christine Speers, Clive Hawken, Stephen Holland, John Power, Colin Bembrick, John Trudgen and me. We were greeted at Mudgee Observatory by John Vetter, Steve Quirk, Robert McNaught, Kevin Cooper and several other friends.

We left around 5:00 PM to avoid the kangaroos at dusk.

We thank John Vetter for his great hospitality and company. It was a great day out and we learned quite a lot. Stay tuned for more to come.

Clear Skies!

Regards, John
