Hi all,

Just a suggestion,But I would like to see a facility to answer an individuals post,Directly.

IE,if

Reply to post,
was placed above each members reply,(to a post),you can then address that person directly.

Especially, if THAT Person,s post,Answered your question's/whatever,more precisely.

Of course,ALL replies,are worth your time,
However,sometimes,someone hits the nail right on the head,and needs to be addressed,directly.

This is usually included,in the "Reply to post bar",as well.

I think RB is right - it sounds like you want to use the "Quote" button, which effectively is a reply to THAT post, because it quote's that post in your reply.

A thread will always have oldest posts at the top and latest posts at the bottom, so the only way to reply to someone who has made a post at the top, is to use "Quote", so that their post is included in your reply. That way, the person knows that your reply is specifically in response to their post.

If individual replies to a post are “pinned” to that specific post then the chronological sequence of the thread is broken.

If there is a thread of say, 10 posts and the specific one you would like to reply to is say, message #5, then “pinning” a specific reply to msg#5 would make it appear like msg#5a. Here is an example:

IIS now:

Original post, Msg#1
Msg#2
Msg#3
Msg#4
Msg#5
Msg#6
Msg#7
Msg#8
Msg#9
Msg#10

The above list would be in chronological order.

However, if we wanted our specific reply to Msg#5 to appear as follows:

Original post, Msg#1
Msg#2
Msg#3
Msg#4
Msg#5
 Msg#5a specific reply to Msg#5
Msg#6
Msg#7
Msg#8
Msg#9
Msg#10

Then the date of Msg#5a would then be later than the following Msg’s and break the chronological sequence.

That's how newsreaders do it, and it does have advantages, but I've never seen forum software that threads that way, so I don't think it can be done.

Older forum software, that just listed post titles, or even yahoo groups for example, can list it that way.

But in my opinion the threaded nature of these forums makes for much easier reading, and much quicker with less clicks.

I like the IIS "waterfall" approach where you "fall" through the posts in chronological order and are able to see quotes as posters see fit to use that function. I suspect this is a personal thing, or perhaps dependant on what systems you are used to working with?

Incidentally, I come from Lotus Notes/Domino background, for what its worth.
