NGC 2070 in Doradus

Hi all,

Work in progress on 52 hours of data on NGC 2070 and surrounds.

What a spectacular region of the sky.

I'm not entirely sold on the palette, but, it is so abundant in oxygen III that it overpowers the region in blue/green in the traditional Hubble palette of sulphur II mapped to red, hydrogen alpha mapped to green and oxygen III mapped to blue.

This was captured over 31 nights. I look forward to presenting the final image (when I'm a bit more satisfied).

15.5 hours hydrogen alpha, 17 hours sulphur II, 19.5 hours oxygen III
1800.0s (each sub-exposure per filter) f/5.0 at 530.0mm -25 degrees Celsius

That falls into the WOW section! At 52 hours it is showing a lot of really faint extensions :thumbsup:

Gorgeous beautiful captivating! :eyepop: As Colin said, showing extremely faint extensions, yet masterful handling of the dynamic range. We love the colour - looks just right. Excellent choice of framing. Yum. The inclusion of a bit of the thick star mass at bottom left adds context and meaning. Brilliant!

That is really something! Agree with the previous comments re framing, faint extension etc. Certainly set the bar high for your return to imaging, cant wait to see more :cheers:

Maybe you need some HDR action for the core areas? :whistle: ;)

Hi Octane,
you've got great depth there.
52 hours is extraordinary - you must have a lot of patience.
I can't zoom in on the larger size to really see what's going on.
I think the core of the Tarantula is over exposed & blown out?
Maybe some shorter subs frames for that area are in order?

That's a gorgeous field H, and very cool view with such a deep exposure. Looking forward to the final version. And yep, the region is bursting with OIII for sure - same goes for SMC too.
