Hi, I am new to astrophotography, having bought myself scopes, mounts, guide cameras etc, i do not have enough USB sockets on my old laptop.

So i am using a powered usb hub. However, i have found that my Qhy5L-II camera will not install unless i go straight to the usb of my laptop. Similarly, My Canon D650 via EOY will not connect. That too will only work pluged straight into the laptop.

I thought by using a powered hub i may have overcome my lack of sockets.

Has anyone else had similar issues? and if so how did you resolve these?

any advice would be appreciated.

Yes i had a similiar problem. My ASI1600 camera will only work directly connected to my laptop usb3 port. I do have my filter wheel and guide camera running through my powered hub and that works fine. If your using a usb3 extension cable with the camera it should be a powered extension cable.

Thanks Glen, yes i have a passive extension. That's possibly the issue. I have read elsewhere that i should use a powered extension. Found one on Jaycar's web site.

Ill get one today and try out.
