View Full Version here: : Was asked yet another UFO question...

...honestly don't know how to tell them politely so I'm asking for creative suggestions...
"Sure, all our scopes can see them, just you won't see them."
"You'll need this really expensive ZWO camera"
"... and these fancy filters."
"...and tinfoil hat"
And again, bear in mind that they could return all the things if they can't see said UFOs (as per store policy we allow store credit change of mind).

Tell them if they have a Telescope they will need to look every night at the night sky and it could take them the rest of their life to see one.....:eyepop:
or they only come out during the day below the horizon ....

They bought the wrong camera, the UFO's cloaking device operates at the gamma ray end of the spectrum and cannot be detected using "amateur" equipment.
But NASA will be selling some surplus X-ray equipment once they de-commission their Chandra space obervatory, it just MAY be able to detect them.

If they are asking about specific capabilities, ie, I.R. & U.V. detection, you can answer that question and state clearly that the equipment is for astronomical use. No comeback possible.

Aw dang, that's not as fun...

UFO's are typically detected via radio signals, if they weren't then why does SETI focus entirely on radio transmitters?

Oh dear god, now there's a phone call about Niburu.... jesus!

OK, Ashley just got off the phone. He says the guy who just called about Nibiru sounded rather drunk.
Alright 'fess up, which one of you was it?

Here is absolute proof! Greg Bock (2nd from right) and I (3rd from right) recently attended legendary visual supernova discoverer Robert (Bob 1st at right) Evans 80th birthday party. Next day we were kindly invited to Linden Observatory with Bob and met with some IIS members including Tony Barry (5th from right) and Robh (4th from right). We got to see the "Evans 30 inch Dob" and when we looked at the image taken we were, as you will be shocked - a UFO! (above right...)
Seems they are everywhere! and here is the "proof". Much clearer than the out of focus/blurred rubbish we are accustomed to. Tell them the facts..it is a total con job and hundreds of millions of digital phone cameras have produced nothing better than this image. Obviously the UFOs are attracted by big telescopes as evidenced here. So sell them a big scope and tell them to learn and enjoy the night skies and they will see much more than they ever imagined!

I am sure you have two separate things mixed up:question::question::question:
SETI looks for extra terrestrial intelligence through out the galaxy via radio
signals
UFO's UnIdentified Flying Objects, are self explanatory
The two have little or not much common
Unless your answer was an attempt humor:question:;)
Cheers:thumbsup:

It is my understanding that ufo's are detected by alcoholically enhanced carbon based bipedal life form detectors? The professionals amongst that group add to their capabilities by adding a fuzzomax grainyator filter to the photographic device of their choice.
Theiy seem to be able to get free colonoscopys too.

Ok then, tell them, "UFO's hang around the sun... but if you see one, you''ll have to be quick because they'll burn you're retina out, straight through the telescope, with their micro precision plasma laser pulse canon, so you cant report it to the Trumps wife..." :P
If they are "serious" researchers though applying the scientific method to this problem... sell them good gear and wish them luck. Science does not discount the possibility of UFO's being alien, just puts a pretty low probability on it being the case.

I must be having a quiet morning. I nearly sprayed my coffee at the keyboard when I read that.
Now you might have given one of us the idea to call you to ask the silliest question we can come up with.

Happy Birthday Bob!! I met him briefly at a NACCA years ago and he is a lovely man. It looks like he is going well. I hope he gets a few more SN discoveries.

Welp, looks like UFO guy wants a dob and a ZWO camera. Didn't hear back from drunk Nibiru guy, but who knows if it had been the same person...
I think I did well. :D :thanx:
Might be too early to count my chickens... cos the last UFO guy we had just stopped at a barlow... most UFO hunters don't end up buying anything.
Alright, if I get another UFO/Nibiru question, I'm gonna assume it was one of you. :mad2:

Where is the thick blanket of clouds that normally accompany big scopes?

I can't fit my scope in my Landcruiser, so where the heck are they gonna stow a big scope on a UFO? Damn, anybody who's been abducted onto a UFO recently will be able to tell you there's no room for gear like that! Sell them a 90mm Mak instead.....:help:

Maybe the... er... probe could open up new storage areas?
Cheers -
Tell them you don't know much about UFO's and you don't know of anyone that has used a telescope to look for them.
Straight-forward and honest.
