NEW ASTRO EQUIPMENT RAG! 20323

http://www.astronomytechnologytoday.com/

We are excited to announce Astronomy Technology Today, a new print magazine that will soon be available to all of us who love our astronomy equipment just as much as the celestial objects it reveals.

Astronomy Technology Today is designed to be the definitive astro equipment rag! Its pages are reserved exclusively for discussion of the equipment, software and services demanded by astronomy enthusiasts, in other words, the stuff that those of us who haunt these pages just can't get enough of and is just not adequately covered in other print publications.

This monthly magazine is focused strictly on astronomical products and services, not on sending out a slick, glossy publication. It is printed on high quality newsprint, which means it's less expensive (you won't pay $30+ for an annual subscription) and faster to print and distribute (you won't be reading about a product that was discontinued six months ago!). Picture a USA Sports Weekly on steroids (pun intended) or a modern Telescope Maker with more content and updated layout and graphics!

At the Qld Astrofest, I noticed that there appeared to be a class of astronomer whose involvement with the ancient science was skewed more towards the purchase of shiny, new astronomy equipment rather than the practice of putting it to good use under dark skies. Maybe this mag is for them?

Thanks for the link

Hi Dennis

I tend to agree - my dob and me will be together for quite some time. My passion is to learn more about the night sky and beyond.

Cheers Petra

Hi Dave

A man can never have too many shiny new toys and gadgets; in fact we are defined by our gadgets. As that famous French Philosopher René Descartes once said, “I have a gadget, therefore I am”. However, both you and Tony clearly fall into the category of “putting them to good use”, so please desist from this unwarranted guilt and self-flagellation.

Cheers

Dennis

I cant see it doing too well because they are comitting the cardinal sin of business, restricting your market. They arent accepting overseas subscriptions at all. Thye say they may in the future, but gee, when starting out you need all the customer base you can. It reminds me of a huge blue Apple Computers made when they brought out this inexpensive low end notebook, when first reviewed, the reviewer was so impressed he attempted to buy one himself, then was told by Apple in no uncertain terms it will only be sold.... to schools. The general public would NOT be allowed to buy them. Go figure.

I think that it will be a case of watch and see.
