Maybe someone bought the business name after they folded in an attempt to capture previous business?

The Dick Smith website is still on the net.

Doing a search for electronics/electrical used to get hits for the site but not so much now.

That's one of problems with the internet, outdated items can just stay there.

India based. All links dead by the looks of it. Don't think its valid. The local contact details may just be a postbox. I wouldn't go there in a pink fit myself.

The Dick Smith name was bought by Kogan and they still trade under that name online only

It gets to be a nuisance. I started renting my house 6 years ago and, unfortunately, Telstra gave me the recycled phone number for a defunct B&B. I still get queries from people obtaining the number from tourist websites.

It can be amazing how long defunct things stay online. I ran across one on the weekend.

Something made me look up the brand name of an old fuel injection system I put on my car in the mid 1990's. I know they had been defunct since a couple of years after I bought one but I was looking for some history. I came up with a dead blank on historical information but there was the company website in all its early internet glory. Someone must still be paying hosting fees and to keep the domain name registered but you would wonder why.

I recall many years ago we were given the old phone number of a grower who specialized in propagating Proteas. Come every spring we had a flood of calls but after about seven years or so the calls finally subsided.

According to ASIC the company name is still registered to someone in Runcorn QLD 4113. So someone's at least paying ASIC to keep the name.

Probably selling online the new brass telescope "antiques" made in India and other similar cheap junk.

I went into York Optical Brisbane perhaps 10-12 yrs ago. I asked for some information about a scope and the person behind the counter told me to go look it up on the internet myself. So I did, and bought the scope online as well but not from York Optical.

Tried dealing myself with York in Brisbane years ago. Absolutely rude and incompetent, so I bought from AOS instead.

Think that's bad, a close friend of mine who recently passed away is supposedly still saying how good various products are and recommending them to me.
Kind of hits you a bit ...

I am not saying AOS was much better lol - took them 12 weeks to send 2 eyepieces...never bought from them again. BUT, they were not as arrogant on the phone.

I dealt with the Perth branch several times back in the mid 80s, and they
were very good.

I bought my first telescope and mount of the Melbourne branch in 2010? (2009?). Service and advise almost drove me out of the hobby before it began (and a fair bit of money wasted). Bintel (Melb) came to the rescue.

AOS were my local guys when I lived in Sydney. Only 5 mins away. I used to do the whole "looking through the windows and wishing" thing we all do no matter what age.

One day they had an obviously 2nd hand Meade LX200 12" in the window..always wanted to try a large computerised scope so went in to ask. Story was that due to flood damage all the electronics were fried and rendered forever inoperable. No way it could be made to work without complete replacement they assured me. I could have it for almost nothing. Sure had enough rust on the Meade GFT that it could have been flood damage...

Took it home, had a thorough look then replaced the BIOS battery (or whatever it's called inside) which had gone flat and it was fully functional.

Bless them...

I still love that scope though I've now EQ mounted it.
