I gave my wife one of these for her birthday - very versatile little camera. Fast too. The video capability almost makes a seperate video camera redundant. We also spent the first hour or two photographing small rocks, fingerprints, etc.

Hi jjjnettie
A bit of an old thread but......................
Are you using your S3is with a scope? If so, could you explain how your physically connecting it & using it?
I have the same camera but yet to buy a telescope, I want to make sure I buy one that I can use with my camera.
Thanks
Steve

i had that camera for a while, but my needs were outgrowing it. it is a fantastic camera, fast, fantastic quality, superb super macro function...just watch it or you'll be taking photos of the dust on your lens :D it's true!!! they aren't wrong when they say it's range is from 0-10cm!
as for connecting to a telescope...i know there is a lens hood adapter for it, that puts a 52mm or 58mm thread onto it (depending which of the adapters you use!, so you can attatch filters and the like, i'm unsure if there's a way to connect the thread to a telescope...

Howdy,
Steve, I don't actually connect the camera to the telescope, I just butt the lens up to the eyepiece of the scope. This method is called Afocal photography.
You can buy a Universal Digiscope Adapter from eg. www.MyAstroShop.com.au. It will hold the camera up to the eyepiece for you.
You can use the camera with some success by just using it on a tripod. Taking lots of short exposures and stacking them in DSS or Registax.
I've captured some pretty nice images of the brighter nebulas doing this.
Its a good little camera for what it is, but it's no DSLR.
I've really enjoyed pushing it to it's limits.

Try an STDT96 from
http://www.scopetronics.com/dtsystems.htm#canon
I used to use one on a G1 with a fair amount of success. The attachment was taken with a G1 with an LX90 and 25mm eyepiece, with this adapter.
