Who's up for Kulnura on the 16th? Last one before IISAC2007!!

I'll be there.. already have minister approval!

It does help to get in early, rather than springing it on them 2 days before :)

I've had a look at my work commitments and that Saturday looks shaky atm.

I'm going to try my best but no promises.
I really want to get the LX200 out there for a spin.

I want to come. Christmas party on the same day but if someone is intending to stay after midnight I will make the trip. Did not have many opportunities to try out the new scope yet...certainly not from a truly dark site...

Listen h0ughy
if you would just come right out and say that the bracelet around your left ankle prevents you from coming south of the Swansea Bridge less you risk alerting all the gendarmes in the hunter region - we would understand.

Gazz - are you writing down all these excuses h0ughy is using less he repeats them ?

Joe - you can count on me to stay with anyone that wants to go past midnite

RB - how you going with the fires up your way to-day ? heard something about them being down the bottom of your road ?
hope you can make it on the 16th (what will Rod do if you don't bring the xmas cigars)

Soooooo - i guess this means i'm gunna be there on the 16th - and i want plenty of company

C'mon - COMMIT you lot, and lets have a great XMAS gathering

Actually - i think we should all turn up, even if it is cloudy

We're ok Geoff thanks, it's a backburning operation. The RFS is an amazing bunch of people, thanks guys
Still, you can't help worrying because conditions can change.

Also I don't know what the seeing will be like for the 16th, there's been a lot of haze in the air now for a while.

:P :P :P my anniverary is 27 November, my wife's birthday is 6 december and my mums birthday is 16 December:whistle: :scared:

write those three down Gazz

But SORRY - i think there has to be a RULE that the Saturday nearest the new moon is set aside for astronomical pursuits. Marked permanently on all calenders and included in wedding vows and the like.

do we know anyone in government that could have this Gazzetted ?

:) :)

Sorry folks, I can not make it...between my trip to Japan, moving house and heading to the US for Christmas I won't be able to make it...

I will try and bring my new toy, although I have had some pretty radical knee surgery that on all accounts has not gone well and looks like I am up for a total replacement in the new year. So lugging an HEQ5 and 8" tube around with a walking stick is quite a trial.

Scott (and family)

safe trip(s) and you all have a great XMAS over there

see you in the new year

Lol Geoff, as you know I work in a high school (it's built on a hill) and have heard every excuse under the sun for things not being done. I prefer making excuses to go places myself. It's my wifes Birthday on the 20th Dec and she knows not to let it interfere with the viewing night so she booked a restaurant for the Fri nite.(good lass)

Hew Dave bring your mum with you and introduce her to the gang (that's if you can remember how to get there and haven't forgotten what we all look like) she could also help you with your gear and save your back in the process. I'll give her a birthday hedgehog, or two if she is lucky.

gazz, I will bring her and leave her with you to look after, she is all yours:whistle: . I will try to arrange something if possible

I have a dozen hedgehogs already. I'm thinking by the 16th I might have as many as 24. So who is bringing the Bonbons and party hats?

Hey froggy, Will I need to bring the thermo of hot chocolate or will the urnie be on?

I will be there weather permitting. I will be be bringing the 18" Obsession for the benefit of Rod's photon deprived eyes. Andrew Murrell will also be coming and bringing a large aperture scope. Gary K is unsure at this stage due to family commitments.

As far as I know Geoff, unless it's pouring rain, Mike said we'll meet there for a social so I'd say it'll be on but just keep checking here because Mike will let us know soon.

Having driven through showers on the F3 in the last hour or so, it looks far too bleak for me to be venturing out tonight. For those hardy souls going, have a COLD one for me! :cold:

We missed you Gazz, we were there till around 1.30am.

I'm going to try for this Saturday too, but it's only a maybe for me at this time.

I'll ask my wife tonight, about the 23rd.

ausastronomer
19-12-2006, 01:03 PM
I have a luncheon to go to. This is something my wife has organised for me. I don't necessarily want to go. It is very rare that I let my wife organise any social event for me. I normally call the shots. Unfortunately, on this occasion I need to go to accumulate brownie points for something else I am about to "con" her on :)

Depending what time the luncheon finishes will determine if:-

a) I turn up at all
b) I turn up without a telescope
c) I turn up with the 18" Obsession.

I will be making my best efforts to get there.

Regardless as to whether I get out there on Saturday Night, I will be doing some observing between Xmas and New Year before the moon interferes.

I could be a starter for the 23rd if the weather is more co-operative this time.

Someone will need to bring a scope .....RB tells me that last week you guys were so unprepared for clear skies that when things cleared up you were limited to using binoculars!!!

Gavin, not until after Lostock. New moon in Feb 2007 is on Sunday 18 Feb. I'd reckon there will be a gathering on 17 February.

It seems a long way off......
