Hi Guys

Since I pushed it a bit deeper, I cant find the Chicken anymore :D.

Taken on an RCOS 10" RC Scope at f9, SBIG STXL6303E Camera and PME mount at itelescopes Siding Spring Observatory.
Processed with CCDstack, Star Tools and Photoshop. 73 hrs Total exposure time.
Ha, SII,Ha,OIII. Mapped as LRGB in "modified Hubble" pallete

Ha 44hrs, 40min subs bin1. SII 12hrs 40min subs bin2, OIII 26hrs 40min subs bin2

No chicken at all, Fred. Looks like steak & kidney to me now :) Some very cool details and nice colour

There is some seriously faint stuff that you've brought out there Fred - stuff that isn't in our version of the same field. And you've shown the faint stuff without losing overall impact. And white stars too.

You've obviously been working away gathering many, many hours of exposure on this and your other recent work. Real mega-data. And it's paying off.

Really nice Fred, I've never quite seen a chicken in this nebula but it is an interesting one to look at all the same :P
I cannot even imagine the kind of processing you can hit it with at 73 hour :P

Thanks Rick. I still angst over colour pallete, glad you like it.

Thanks Mike n Trish. Not so much work gathering, just takes a looong time. I did RGB stars but that was a fail, so the stars are just Ha.

Cheers Colin. I used to hit megadata with lots sharpening and decon etc, but you still get artifacts. Not so much of that stuff these days, although Im tempted at times, these images could be a lot sharper. Some processing is easier, much less noise to deal with.

Wow! 73 hours??!! Well done Fred! Some great colour there, so no need to fret IMO. Nice & deep too!

It is a little blurry though, most apparent at full res. It would be a sock-knocker-offer if it was sharper. Also, some star egginess towards top of frame, esp on right. What's going on there?

Thanks Macus. Well, yes, its a struggle, its a bit dim but with the hrs I should still be able to get it sharper, I did try. The stars arnt flash anyway and the eggines is a mechanical problem Ive had for a while. I re squared the camera which helped a bit, but its hard being remote to get enough time (on visits), to tweak-image-tweak over a period of days if required. Its fun to go deep and fiddle with colour anyway, even if not everything is perfect.

Hi Fred,

Thanks for posting this - Really interesting to see the details in that small often overlooked portion of the Neb. Well done

Great colours and echoing Marcus' comments, maybe the Startools Magic filter would round out and shrink those pesky stars a tad?

Cheers
Andy

Ah huh! The Head of the Running Chicken

Wow...another very Vanderhavenish image, Mr Vanderhaven...almost didn't recognise the chicken head :eyepop: A mass of exposure there, with your typical processing...that only Andy can compete with

Cool

Mike

Thanks Andy, damb, I forgot about that. Youve got me revisiting stupid stars in ST again. Magic doesnt work that well, but star repair really is magic, makes all stars perfectly round, but it can have an effect which could be regarded as somewhat unacceptable I wont mention :P, but I am working on it now.

Gaud here we go, "typical processing". Look, my crayon images are for full frame viewing, not zooming in, you know that :P ;) . Andys got me working on the stars, so give me a 2nd chance :mad2:.

Thanks JA. No, he got overexposed  .
