Hi all,

Another image taken at Zane Hammond's Magellan Observatory last weekend.

I wanted to go longer, but, the rest of the night and weekend was "obscured by clouds". Lots of them.

So, here it is, anyway.

Read and view here (http://members.optusnet.com.au/mrozycka/Magellan_Observatory/Magellan_Observatory_20061126_Chris tmas_Tree_Cluster.html).

Warning: file is approximately 1.50 MB in size.

Comments and critique welcome.

Regards,
Humayun

Some nice colours in the stars, H. I particularly like the blue/orange double in the right hand corner of the image. Thanks for sharing.

Very good image Hamayan. It shows all the visible colour detail present in the original object, from the blue reflection nebula to the H alpha regions. The brighter stars also show their colour ie not blown out. A very nicely balanced image showing all the detail and colour and this is only possible under dark skies and no filters but still needs well planned image aquisition and processing.
It looks like you got everything right. The evidence is the superb image.

Excelent work there Humayun. The Cone Nebula is very prominent and as Bert says colour rendition is most accurate.

David,

Thanks for the compliment, mate. I'm not entirely happy with this image as I feel there's too much noise. Needs longer exposure.

Cheers.

Rod,

Thanks, mate.

I didn't notice the double until just then when I read your response. That's great. :)

Gary,

Thank you!

Yes, Zane's place is around 6-6.5 magnitude. Probably gets to 7. Excellent skies.

I wish that lens was mine!

Humayun

Bert,

Thank you, kindly.

I was hoping the reflection nebulosity would come out more blue than is apparent. I think it needs more time. Darn this hobby (read: obsession); nothing is ever good enough.

Thanks again.

Humayun

Scott,

Thanks, mate.

I still feel more can be brought out of it; it's just a matter of getting out there again and taking more exposures.

Humayun
