Unexplained sightings ?

Just a question my Missus has been asking me to ask you all though ive told her with a scope i doubt youd be able to see something like that and i doubt many would advertise the fact they could have seen something....but here it goes .......

Anyone seen something in the skies with the scope or binos that they cant explain such as a ufo or whatever us mere mortals call space craft or even just something really weird that none of you can explain?:whistle:

I can add to this thread with a but, .
while doing the public viewing night we saw something cross the sky above the observatory which at first had us wondering what. . . ?
The view of the sky from a observatory is somewhat restricted by the roof. What we saw seemed to turn and change direction while its speed was way to quick for a satellite or high alt aircraft.
It was only after a group of these objects came over that we were able to identify them; Against a very dark sky with a good moon to back light them Much to our amusement. They were sea gulls. Recently a pigeon has been seen circling our dome. . . mischief is afoot. I will not jump to conclusions again.
What did I think it was,? I am far too embarrassed to say.:doh:

No scope or binos .. but picture this I'm working late spraying at night on a farm .. no houses or people for a few miles away.. I come over a hill and there a half k away by the dam is a huge bright light 20 feet off the ground
surounded by a half acre of fog (its a clear night !!)...stopping to take this in
and still have no idea what I'm looking at .. then out of the fog
wanders a figure in some sort of suit with all this fog swirling around .

Well it was either one of those close encounter moments:P
... or possibly the bee man checking his hives .. smoked well with the boom on his truck extended up with a light on top :D

Stuff sometimes happens in life we can not really explain, and may defy our abilities to rationalise and comprehend. I am sure at least a few peoiple here might have had such eye opening experiences, cant blame them for not speaking up!

Well i think it was a beekeeper ;) but you just never know ;)

I did come across another beekeeper incident on the net a few years back
This potential "abductee" was bouncing across the desert with a few beers under his belt when up in front two guys in spacesuits step out and put there hand up for him to stop .. he crashed into the ditch beside the track he was driving on.. they just wanted to let him know there hives and pick up were round the next bend .

As we all are Leon. Any body who is genuinely interested in the sciences must agree with you. Some of our own experiences are humorous. thats all this is about.

Although I am sitting on the fence in regards to all this, I think it is really quite funny how we, As Astronomers, who can see and understand how big the universe is, mostly choose to believe we are the only ones "out there"..........quite funny when you think about it , given the hubble deep space shots etc.......it is a really really big place....;)

I am not one of those that think we may be alone. That would be naive and even silly to draw that conclusion. It must be said tho that as yet we have not any proof of other life in this local area of the galaxy. The rest of the universe might be teaming with life forms. We may never know. At this point in time and space we are alone. That is a fact. It could change at any moment. that is how science is.

It was dark and cool, the half moon peaking through the cloud every now and then, I was thinkin’ good seeing tonight, should get the scope out if the cloud breaks up. All of a sudden a bright streak appears to my left as I’m checking out the East horizon, nice meteorite, as usual I’m the only one who sees it, even the dog is more interested in the fence. Then it gets eerily quiet, a small off white light appears, off in the distance further south about 30° up, not a plane, moving too fast for a satellite … I grab the binos off the tripod, “where is it …”, it’s not moving in a straight line, I can’t pick it up in the binos, I’m swapping between eyeballing and looking through ‘glasses’, can’t get a fix, it looks to be getting bigger, and moving in a sought of zig-zag path towards the SW, all over the shop. I have no idea how big it is, or how far away, then it stops dead, hovering … the dog stops mucking about and seems to be facing the same direction not making a sound just sought of testing the air.

This is freaky, I’m half thinking, nah … I’ve seen Close Encounter … they got bigger ships than this, either they are spottin’ for a place to land or their co-pilot’s been on the juice and thinks it’s funny how those humans look puzzled… Aliens are way to cool for this sought of nonsense, I’ve seen Star Trek Next Gen. They don’t buzz the tower and fall about laughing, and nobody ever gets drunk on the bridge! But then again they all speak English with and American accent … so who knows what they are capable of ….

I’ve given up trying to get a closer look in the binos and waitin’ for it to move again while I got my eyeball on the spot, I’m not movin’ an inch, the dog’s looking at me and looking back out the way I’m facing … I move my head ever so slightly, it’s off again, then suddenly it’s gone … just like that … like it was never there ??? Then I noticed it disappeared the exact same time as the bathroom light was switched off … hang on a minute …. “hey switch that light back on”, on it goes … there it is again, “turn it off”, bingo it’s gone. It appears that if I stand at a 45° angle facing roughly SE to S about 5 meters away the bathroom light makes a small reflection on my glasses …….. :whistle:

I come back inside, “Anything interesting out tonight?”
“Nah … the dog’s acting weird, I think there’s a possum in the trees, I’m off to watch some telly, Stargate’s on tonight …” :D

On the wall in my office at work is the poster of the UFO and the words "I want to believe" made famous by the X-files. And I have the entire series on DVD. :whistle:

All those years up late in the dark and not even a glimpse and all those trips to remote dark sky areas and still not a single unexplained time distortion event. I'm beginning to wonder as well.

And that episodes of 'Star trek', Voyager, and all those other space related stories are actually broadcast to us from some place halfway across the galaxy. Well of course this is true... yeah right.
It is difficult to explain to the person that is yelling at me on his cell phone that the moon is crashing. When all that he See's could be explained if only he would pull over and stop. Yes that has happened to me. He did stop and said sorry. I did not laugh at him till he had gone...
