Well my last version in this forum received the 'deathly sound of silence', so hoping this gets more of a reaction!

I was just testing 30 second subs at 75 gain with the ASI1600 while waiting for astro dark to settle in Heathcote. So it's 20 exposures for LUM and 6 each for RG&B, a whole 20 mins then...

Much happier with the star colours being produced. Definitely staying at lower gain now!

Hi, Simon,

Your star colours seem broadly similar to the ESO wide-field (https://www.eso.org/public/images/eso1302a/) shot. In particular, you've avoided making it too blue which I perceive as a common error with this one in particular and globular clusters in general, given that they are famous for being mostly older, cooler, orange stars. Well done!

Your processing seems to have given more weight to the faint outer halo compared with the ESO image.

Overall, a great shot.

Best,
Mike

Thanks everyone!

Ta, yes I'm enjoying trying to do the equipment justice, might get there in a cupla years...

Wow, gee very flattered, thanks Mike! Yes colour calibration with these globs is a surprising challenge, thanks for the scientific background, will keep.

Great, won't wipe my HDD then Rick! This Glob lark is very satisfying and pretty deep actually. many galaxies to be seen as well.

Funny Mike! Yes a good quickie.

That's a nice Tucan Simon.
Star colours look superb.
I guess that newly discovered Mid sized black hole is in there somewhere lurking around at 2200 Solar masses.
Great article on ABC here

Michael, thanks for that new info. Wow the instruments must be so precise.

Hahaha Mmm M78 yeah nice I don't think my baby Ed/80 would do much justice on that one not while this big bright moon is about anyway or while it is still currently 33degrees at 1am lol 😱😱

That's so bigly betterer that I'm going to cherish it.
It makes me so sad when people photo their hearts out and no one says they are good. They should always say they are
Even when they are not very good. Praise mediocrity. It helps people feel America getting great again.

very tidy image Simon detail and colour are spot on.

the deathly silence when someone posts usually means one of two things - either the image is pretty bad or it is so good that everyone is muttering "bugga" under their breaths and sulking - always assume that it is the latter .

Or of course, there is also the possibility that the weather has been so reliably bad that most people have taken up more sensible pastimes.

More happiness sent for all your replies! Pleased to finally tame the camera's capturing of colour. Im almost finished processing my M78 pic and bloody weeped when i saw the colours coming out of the 10 min subs. Yay not white! (Or are they all meant to be white?? )
