Hi All
This is a shot of a colourful open cluster in Carina NGC 2516.
This is reported to be about 1 degree in size and shines at mag 3.8 and at a distance of 400pc make for an excellent low power telescope view.
I shot this with a SXV-H9C through a ZS66SD/.8 on a G11 mount.
Exposures were 30 x 2 minutes, AA3 used for capture combine & align and CS2 for post processing.
For those that are interested a larger image can be found at my web site. www.atalas.net
I hope you all enjoy It.

You've definately done it justice Louie. 2516 is in my top five favourite open clusters. Leave the Jewel Box for dead IMO (ducks and weaves :scared3: ) and gives those other two M7 & 6 a good run for their money.

Hi and thanks Paul...yeah I totally agree with you too ! there is quite a few clusters around that are more colouful and stunning than the more popular ones.

Thanks H...I'd like to see you shoot this one with your DSLR mate, the composition would be more beautiful for such a big cluster.

Love it Louie! Very nice and colourful and fits the frame perfectly.
I think the jewelbox is still a better eyepiece object, because it's smaller and tighter and can fit in the FOV. 2516 is just too big and wide to fit in the normal FOV :)

Louie,
If the clouds had kept at bay, I would have. :)
Next time.

Thanks Houghy and Mike, glad you like It.
Mike, you need an ED 80 and a Nagler ! NGC 6231 is another one that I think is much more spectacular than the Jewel Box and also another Carina cluster,NGC 3293 (The Gem)another Jewel killer ! Mike better still, get youself a ZS 66SD ! these clusters look gorgeous in the little scope. Convinced? no? oh well, our different likes is what makes for an interesting life.
