Today, the 29th of Nov the forecast is for 38C.
It was only 21 days ago that a local farmer had calves frozen to death, buried under 9ft of hail.:eyepop: The calves were sheltering in a gully from the storm. They had the photos on the front page of the local paper.
Crazy.
weird huh!
just cant predict the weather...
I think today is the 11th day in a row over 30ºc and its not even Summer time yet.

It's a sure sign that the next Ice Age - already 2000 years overdue - is imminent:D :D
bring on the iceage!
the ice age cometh! :P

Hit 40 C today.
Wow, was it hot in Ipswich QLD today.
It hit 40.6 and its still 39, I'm so glad to be home in the air-conditioning, and having a cold beer, I feel so much better.
It was 22 degrees at 5:30am when I left for work.
Today I wished I lived on the coast with the cooling sea breeze.
Maybe tomorrow will bring a cooling change.

I have seen reports that it is just not going to get any better.
:(
Cheers Petra
Dont worry about the Ice age, its polar reversals that are the problem. Geologically they are a real event and have been measured on the floor of the Atlantic Ocean.
The nutters have got hold of it though and are having a great run with it at the moment. But you just cant beat a good conspiracy theory, I love em.

We just had a hail storm, about 1 Cm size followed by a brief rain shower, with one big lightning strike that cut the power for half a minute.
Everything back to normal now, but still hot.
Mike.

I don't care if it's hot or cold, just as long as it isn't cloudy :)

Was still 39C at 4pm, on the east side of the house in the shade.
That storm this arvo cooled things off a bit.
What sort of wacko would believe in Polar Reversal? Sounds like they need to up their medication.
up the meds and decrease the dope I think! :screwy:
Hi JJJ,
Polar reversals are a real geological event, I studied them as a part of plate tectonics at Uni when doing a Geology degree.
As the Mid Atlantic ridge widens and releases lava on the ocean floor it cools and up stores a record of the Earths magnetic field for that period in time.
By taking core samples while moving away from the ridge you move into older rocks and the core samples taken have shown that the Earths magnetic field does reverse itself over a period of approx 50,000 years so the whole process is a slow subtle event.
As far as I remember from Uni days they are a sporadic event with the last one occuring a few million years ago.
But I suppose conspiracy theorists have to eat as well.

Yep, we dont know EVERYTHING yet about how the Earth and other solar bodies function over time, science is as arrogant a pursuit in practice as it is flexible in its ideals and need to discover and truly understand, so todays bold claims are all to often tomorows mistakes or incompletions.
I can not believe i am a science student sometimes.... but choose it any day over alarmist sensationalisations that have little rational grounding.
great link there had me chuckling, poor buggers.

Ric,
That's fair enough.
It was really the treatment of the topic that got me. We're all gunna die in 2012!
All good Sci-Fi books are based on facts. If only he put his theory in this form, it would have made for a better read and people might have learned something about this phenomena.
No worries JJJ, if we survive 2012 then I suppose there is 2036 and the potential asteroid strike, no doubt there will be books written when the nutters get wind of it.
We all need a good laugh now and then

How would it stop the earth from rotating, then start it going in the opposite direction? What is everybody's opinion would be the effect?

I dunno Ron. We'll just have to wait and find out.
well my lil' brain can only cope with the gravitational side of it and its effects on us human and to a lesser degree the rest of the planet...
wouldnt it be the best funpark ride! :D

If my memory is correct, and it sometimes isnt. LOL
We are overdue a magnetic Pole reversal by some 300,000 years.
I studied Geology for a while also.
But being in the aviation industry now, I often wonder what the effect woud be on aircraft that are on route? Luckily thesedays, they don't rely on magnetic compasses as much, but GPS. The thing I don't know is, what effect GPS will have though when the poles reverse again.
Mike.
Hi Mike, as far as I remember being a gradual process I dont think that it would be a real problem to write compensating software to correct the errors that would occur with GPS.
As to why it occurs, I think there is some truth in that the Sun's magnetic field has an effect on the magma layer beneath the Earth's crust but not in the way the doom and gloom pundit's suggest.

DOH!
That means we might not be able to witness the next Venus transit, and the next total solar eclipse visible from Australia :(
I'm takin my bat and ball and goin home...:mad2:
Cheers!

That is a very good question, and one that would need great and indepth contemplation of magnetic/gravitational solar body relationships.
In short, i dont know.
