29x20 mins with a QHY8 on an RC8 and EQ6 in suburbia.

Only an RGB image. So details of the OIII below the pencil are not there. Also a couple of annoying halos presumably from bright stars out of field - more lens flare than a JJ Abrams Star Trek reboot :) Anybody got any tips for suppressing these and/or dealing with during processing?

Weirdly the fainter halo at 90 degrees to the more obvious one (parallel to and below the pencil) was from a meridian flip. Don't know why it wasn't flipped 180 degrees! Also not sure why these halos are more green than white - mistook them for genuine features at first.

Found it really hard to manage the noise on this one, but at least happy to get more detail in the body of the pencil than I've managed before - not saying much though!! Needs more data ideally, but two nights of imaging is enough for now before it gets boringly repetitive!

Lots of fine detail in the Pencil itself. Not sure about the halos. Reflections from bright stars?

A very nice pencil. An enjoyable image.

(We are very partial to internal reflections. Not everyone has them!)

Nice details in the pencil Paul. Those reflections are a real pest. Nothing worse than starting to process a promising image pand then finding one of these showstoppers.

Nice looking image Paul but surely you can find something better to name it after than JJ Abrams.

Cheers

Thanks Geoff.

LOL. Thanks Steve. Surely he's the master of the reflection/lens flare! Though luckily his wife talked him out of it on Star Wars! http://screenrant.com/star-wars-force-awakens-lens-flares-jj-abrams/

Thanks Mike. Sounds like you're cracking. We'll have you doing the Pencil before long. :welcome:

It's easy to ignore the reflections, Paul. Nice job!
