Hi, my 1st attempts at imaging the dark side of Venus proved somewhat successful even though Venus is still very bright. As the crescent narrows I intend trialling several occulting bars I have made using a variety of materials in the hope of reducing the glare and perhaps capturing some surface features.

With daytime temps above 40C it is becoming difficult to find any steady seeing for Venus, however the crescent continues to narrow. Using a 1µm filter the dark side continues to be easily seen although software and hardware occulting masks have so far failed to improve the images.

Phil,
Very interesting pictures here. I have always wondered how to image Venus. Being so bright I never really thought it was possible to attain anything worth the effort but you've clearly demonstrated that it definately can be done. I am amazed at the surface detail you've captured. Well done.
Is the filter you are using used specifically for this planet? I have a set of moon polarising filters- would this do a similar job or am I barking up the wrong tree?
Keen to learn.

Thanks,
Anth
