Hey guys,

Sorry if this has been asked before but.... I have been given a NexStar 114mm but for the life of me can not get it to align!

* Live in Brisbane
* Have made sure the date format is in US
* Time is correct
* Pointed the stupid thing North and South

Just can't get it to work :-(

HELP!!

Is it just out by a little bit or nowhere near? I no longer have my NexStar so only going from memory...

1. Try brand new alkaline batteries, if they were going flat mine would do all sorts of crazy things like try and point at the ground. I ran it of a big 12V Lead battery and never had any further issues. Doesn't like rechargables either.

2. Make sure the tube is assembled in the mount as per manual with the retaining knob pointing down.

3. There may have been a factory reset option in the handset menu.

Good luck

Need a LOT more information. Step by step, what are you doing?

What page in the manual are you following?

Hey Monkeyboi,

Fellow forum members have posted good suggestions.
I have a Celestron nexstar 6se and my alignment routine is to

1. Bypass the prompt for initial align
2. Go to menu setup date/time again as it seens to save the last viewing session you have.
3. Ensure your city is set for the observation site.
4. Go back to main menu to do the alignment.
5 i have found 2 star alignment is most accurate
6. Pick stars that have some distance, currently i pick Achernar and Rigel. Use a illuminated alignment plossl or something similiar to get accurate alignment.
7. When alignment you need to do in 2 steps. Hit enter and then the align button for both alignment stars.
8. Test by using tour or the catalog, currently i use m42 orion nebula.

I find the time and date usually catches me out as it neefs to be done every time.

Hope it helps,

Mel :thumbsup:
