M42 and NGC 1977

Couldn't resist posting this after seeing Striker's 1st shot of same object with his new CCD setup. I bought his IDAS LPS filter when he sold his DSLR gear this is my 1st photo using it. It's burnt out around the trapezium, but as one of my first attempts at a guided exposures, I was quite pleased.

Taken from suburban Adelaide. 8 x 5 min with darks subtracted. 102mm refractor at f8

Thanks for the comments, everyone. This is my 100th post on IIS!

After a year of mainly webcam planet photography, I'm slowly getting my head around the mysteries of camera control and focussing, and now autoguiding. Cables hanging off the telescope everywhere. Who'd have thought deepsky photography would be this complicated?
