Ahoy comrades!

What do you do on a hot humid summer night when the moon is nearly full and clear sky is frequently spoilt by fast moving low and slow moving high clouds? Yes, Carina!

It has been ages since I presented a colour image...anyway, I think I will try to collect more data of the Carina and make a more careful processing - in this revision #1.0 it looks like I managed to split Eta Carina! Wait, it is in fact a binary...LOL

SHO composition, 12 five minute subs per filter (Ha, OIII and SII).

High res: http://www.astrobin.com/full/279934/B/?nc=user

Full res (if you have a big screen): http://www.astrobin.com/full/279934/B/?nc=Slawomir&real=&mod=

BTW, I really like my new mount. Seeing varied on that night, but the total RMS was consistently around 0.35 arcseconds and when air was still it dropped to 0.25 arcseconds.

Thank you for looking

Now that is very impressive Suavi, the Mach 1 is performing excellently. The hi-res is just as outstanding.
any chance of pming me the details of your mount purchase, i.e. who with, cost etc

PS Could the appearance of eta car be the homunculus?

Very nice Suavi I like it and good choice of target too given the conditions...now..juuuust needs some magenta stars and I will love it :D

I had similar conditions with passing cloud coming on 2 years ago now and I decided to shoot the same thing (http://www.pbase.com/strongmanmike2002/image/159445895/original) for the same reasons, all be it at a finer image scale and narrow FOV :)

Again, nice job and I'm lovin the mount too..and it isn't even mine :eyepop: ... and long live Eta Carina :prey2:

Thank you George and Mike.

Yes, the mount is gold and it has significantly increased the level of joy I am getting from this hobby/passion our ours.

Mike, thank you for posting your truly awesome image- I will definitely use it as a benchmark and will try to close the gap, as much as it is possible :)

Just to be clear ...the intention of my reference to my image was to show that, like you experienced, even on those nights that we may initially think DANG! :mad2: :tasdevil: :bashcomp:...we can still salvage worthwhile result by taking a different approach.

Mike
who would love a Mach1

I perfectly understood your comment Mike - it was me who did not express myself clearly. I love your images and I am convinced that guys like myself who are quite new to this hobby can learn a lot from more experienced imagers, if we pay attention and are not afraid to experiment. Please keep doing what you have been always doing! :)

Here is my attempt at the Carina just under 3 years ago with the same telescope :) http://www.astrobin.com/full/92701/0/

Suavi

I never truly understood how someone can love a machine...until now that is

Very good Suavi:thumbsup:

I've had the same project running for weeks!got the Ha, now only just started the Lum.....starting to think I won't get the colour done any time soon:cloudy:

Nicely resolved Sauvi!
Actually had a run of clear weather down here in Melbourne but with the hot nights, 4" seeing and twinkling at zenith I haven't even bothered setting up! Although a bit cloudy your skies look pretty stable :)

The nice thing with the Carina nebula is that it is so bright! You've got pretty smooth data for limited data. Glad that your Mach 1 is keeping you happy!

Thank you Louie, I am looking forward to your record of this beautiful and popular DSO

Thank you Mike! But wait till you see the version #17.23 of the Carina

BTW, how long were the subs in your photo of the Carina?

Yes, I thought I will try a brighter object for a change

That's really nice Suavi - dark & brooding - great job :)

Encouraging feedback from top imagers - it does not get much better than that! :)

I did a whole series of short exposure sets, 5sec, 10sec and 30sec (if I recall correctly?) through each filter :)

Thank you Mike - I may try shorter subs as well as an experiment and see what comes out of it. Eta Carinae is indeed a very bright stellar system!

Thank you Marcus :)

Some great detail in that image. Eggscuse my ignoramis, but why don't you have magenta stars?

Slawomir
13-01-2017, 01:08 PM
Thank you Kevin. As for the stars, I used a straight SHO colour palette and also removed stars when combining narrowband channels into a RGB image (but not from the Luminance) - some consider it a forbidden technique ;)

Thanks, I'll have to remember that one, though I don't see NB anytime soon in my future. I was just curious.

Another lovely image, Suavi. We like the colour a lot. Beautiful handling of the fine detail further from the beaten track toward bottom and right.

Well done and perfectly legitimate. Reckon the colour of the stars had no special meaning before, but seemed to have a meaning. Now it is clear that it doesn't. That is a good thing.

Best,

Nice palette and detail is great Suavi.

yes it's a great image Suavi, yet another sharpie! Doing it myself this week, Ha being the only filter that can cope with the damned moon, or is SII reasonable too? I found OIII to be pointless the other night.

Definitely thinking of combining a shorter series of subs for the core in my attempt.

Gee, pretty impressive Suavi, huge detail and small stars. Could do with a bit more red, if that makes sense.

Thank you all for such kind comments. I am really glad I did not listen to my reason and set up that night :-)

Simon - I collected all three channels on the same hot, humid ,92% moon and partially cloudy night. Signal in OIII is very strong, so I would go for it as long as the skies are relatively clear. SII is weaker, so it would require twice as many subs as HA IMO. If (read:when) I was to do it again, I would expose OIII at about 1.5 times Ha, and SII 2xHa for this target., so about 1 : 1.5 : 2. Having said that, in this image all are 1:1:1.
