Hi Davo just did a visual on Canopus, saw nothing like the funky effect in your image. Must be lenticular light bounce if the shot was afocal.
The effect is to well resolved to be an object so it most probly is equipment generated 99% sure.

It doesn't really look like anything to worry about too much - after all it IS still headed away, or at least it's not heading directly towards us/you.

Wow that's cool, looks way too resolved to be a normal internal reflection.

What a gorgeous internal reflection.
I say frame it called it a reflective nebula and name it.

Perhaps you caught aliens in the process of performing an extraterrestrial globular transfer....... but my guess is that it was really just an internal reflection....:P

Nothing wrong with it's warp drive, it's everywhere! I think I'll call it Fishtankis Reflectionis Nebula.

Do you happen to have an active Bluetooth device nearby, with the bright blue connection LED being picked up by the lens somehow?
Cheers
Dennis
I agree..... I think its some blue light source thats being moved around during the exposure.....

Comparing the two examples and using an edge detect function in Corel Photo paint, the artifact looks the same in both images.

There is a nerd at every party - - Dennis you should be called Spock. hey now hang on a sec, guys didn't we see him running around in a space suit in july?
I think it is a reflection, but of what and how fast it was moving is a different question?:D :P
now thats weird :confuse3:

It seems to be in all my images from last night. It's only in the ones with a bright star near the centre. I thought it might have been the new fish tank inside with its 5800k grow light (it's blueish), but the images after I turned it off still have the blue mark. I also noticed that if an image had star trails then so did the blue mark. Only thing different I did from any other night was have the laptop out with me trying out DSLRFocus (works a treat). No blue tooth but I do have a wireless network router. See what happens next time.

Whatever it is, it's beautiful.
I think you will find it is a chip or mark/dirt on a glass surface in you optic path.....ie filter or lens etc....
