The Wolf Nebula Repro

I have imaged this one before. The first time I saw it imaged was the excellent image by Paul Haese.

This one was one of the first images I took using the FLI ML16 (KAF16200 sensor).

I like the solidity of the images the AP Honders 305 makes. The 305mm aperture at F3.8 builds up the signal very nicely.

Quite an interesting region Greg, not quite as dynamic as some of your other work (just not as much in the area) but a strong Ha background. Nicely captured :)

Hi Greg,

I like the version you did with the TEC180 better. It shows a lot more fine detail in the dark nebulosity. Looks like the red channel is clipped in this one. Maybe a quick repro? :)

It is an unusual area with different to normal type colours. It may need some more work as you point out.

I'll have another look at it. Perhaps it is. I did hold back on publishing it as at times I thought more could be gotten out of it. Time to revisit the data.

Ok. I see what you were seeing and I have done a redo. I agree the first one was a bit flat and had some shutoffs caused by Ha layers etc.

This is more my normal style. Hard to achieve it sometimes. Processing really is an art and somewhat of an elusive thing at times.

Ha LRGB 160 95 70 70 40 minutes using 5 minute subs and a Paramount ME Mount.

We think both versions are very fine. The head of the wolf is much more prominent now. (What big teeth you have, Grandma! All the better to eat you with.) Conversely, the haunches are less prominent than before.

Yes one area improves another weakens. Compromises. Perhaps I'll add the earlier data from the TEC180 taken at dark skies and quite long exposure to make it a stronger image.
