Today I'll purchase a Meade 16" ACF OTA and I still have about 2.000€ to 3.000€ left for a solar scope. I was planing to use an OAG to guide the scope, or not even guide it at all with my 10 Micron GM 3000 HPS mount.
But today someone suggested me to just buy a 80mm Doublet APO with a Quark eyepiece for solar observations. This I believe is a great idea.
During the day I could put the cap cover on the Meade OTA and observe the sun with the APO. At night, I could use the 80mm Doublet APO for nice wide field of views. Also this opens up the possibility to use ON-axis guiding (I'll be imaging with a Lepux 0.62X telecompresor at 2 meter focal lenght).
I'm now considering to buy a Prime Luce Lab 80mm doublet APO with 500mm focal lenght it weights about 3Kg and comes with a Vixen bar, do you think it would be compatible with the Meade OTA? Also, how much does starlock weight? the 90mm doubled APO is also avaliable with a Vixen bar but I'm afraid it might be too heavy and could potentially introduce some flexure issues to the scope so the policy here is not to exeed the weight of the original starlock system, at least not by much.
Finally, If that is not an option, what lateral double plate should I use for a 10 micron GM3000 mount? Thank you!
