Nothing was wrong with my laptop, other than the internal CPU/GPU fan and heatsink needed cleaning of all the dust, air borne particles etc - it was really congested, and the fan was on nearly all the time.
So, to disassemble this ASUS laptop, one must remove the HDD.
Upon reassembly and reboot, the system starts the POST screen , but then the HDD light extinguishes and it doesn't try to boot further - it stays on the ASUS screen. Eventually, it will come up with either a small blue tile asking which to boot from (P0: HDD or P1: DVD). If I select the HDD, it then loads Windows normally - hence me writing this here.
Sometimes, it will not do anything, but I can function key it into either FLASH or to the BIOS. Checking the BIOS the boot order is correct, and changing it to UEFI, or alternating AHCI or IDE makes no difference. I can make it boot to Windows 7 via the Exit page overriding the boot sequence (which is the same as the sequence anyway!).
It's bugging me, and I have little to no inclination to reflash BIOS! (I get nervous flashing BIOS!!!!!). Of course, I can't even enter the Windows recovery to see if somehow I can reload some Windows damaged fragments IF that has anything to do with it (appears not).
Computer works perfectly ONCE it boots to Windows, but getting it there is the aggravating bit. It's never done this before, as I have cleaned the fan system at least 4 times now (Laptop is going strong, 6 years old now)
