UPDATED IMAGE

Like a Phoenix rising from the ashes, for me IC 2177 has a majestic avian-like presence. It's wings resemble ethereal curtains drifting in Stellar winds.

Revisiting this object with the widefield Stellarvue SV70T.

Sometimes I wish it was even wider as the RH wing is clipped a bit.

There's a cool Herbig Haro object in the upper right hand side, and a few more objects of interest for the scientifically minded to look for throughout the field.

12 x 1800secs Ha 5nm
12 x 900secs O3 3nm
12 x 900secs S2 3nm

Mapped in conventional HST palette, Ha=Green, O3=Blue, S2=Red
Colours seasoned to taste :)

C& C welcome as always. :)

Andy, that is most excellent. Subtle and rich.

Of course it is a phoenix, but I can't help seeing it as the sharp-beaked cockatoo that ate a big chunk out of the roof of our innocent chook house.

Cheers Scotty - Here's hoping the Melbourne weather is kinder this season than last. :)

'Phew'! - cheers Mike :D

Cheers Mike, glad you liked it - not sure about the cockatoo but definitely more interesting than a seagull :)

Good composition is important with any astro image and can yield different and compelling views of a common object. A corker of an image Andy. Nicely done!

Cheers Greg & Marcus, in truth I was hoping to fit a bit more Nebulosity in.
As soon realised that my FOV was tighter than I intended I had to figure out how to reframe it.
Seems to have turned out ok, glad you liked it! :)

Andy, the image is great, .....
but I agree with you, that it would benefit with a wider view all around (not only on the RHS) so as to frame it against the blackness of space and bring out its shape even more.

Hi Andy,
what an excellent picture with plenty of detail.
The left hand side has some elongated stars -
maybe you clipped them off the RHS which is not showing the same aberration?

cheers

Absolutely beautiful. Excellent capture and processing. Love the colours, and the handling of the dynamic range.

I notice that the black point is very slightly clipped, but it doesn't seem to have affected the appearance. Yum.

Best,
Mike

Hey thanks M&T, really appreciate the positive feedback, cheers :)

Thanks very much Suavi, some images come together much easier than others and fortunately, this was one of them :)

Thank very much Steve & Colin for your kind words, much appreciated!

Sadly it's now looking very wet in Melbourne for the foreseeable future, so this will likely be my last image for 2016.
Thanks everyone for our feedback, both positive and constructive - it's all useful! :thanks:
Happy New Year everyone :)
