In September, ESA held a citizens debate with 2000 participants from the ESA member states.

Here is a short overview of the results with a link to more detailed findings.

The debate material can be downloaded to replicate such a discussion in schools, universities or wherever.

I like that very much! Other basic research facilities only open once a decade to the general public and do not ask around for topics or opinions on which the tax money should get spent.
I can't really imagine a citizens debate at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology :P but who knows? There might be hobbyists in that field, as well.
And it's likely a field for sci-fi / alien related research, too.

I'd be keen on debating future projects at Max Planck Institute for Neuroscience. Not least because it's located in Florida

I dont like debates, I only get some fool arguing against what I say is right and of course they are always wrong.

I am sorry for your hardship :D

In December, ESA will propose the first project for rubbish collection (http://www.esa.int/Our_Activities/Space_Engineering_Technology/Clean_Space/e.Deorbit)in orbit.
A point that was apparently important to citizens, too. (How suggestive the questions were in this regard I haven't checked yet ;) )

Did you know that China has destroyed one of its own old satellites in 2007 - in an altitude where the rubbish won't burn up in the atmosphere?
1/6 of the total debris up there is caused by this particular typical act of pure arrogance and stupidity humans perform all the time.

You ought to watch the film "Gravity" Seriously good CGI on what could go wrong shooting up dead satellites.. :eyepop:

Just playing with you.

I have been concerned about the space junk problem well before it became popular to do so.

The Chinese effort was unfortunately heralding an era that is not yet with us but some speculate they were demonstrating something to the USA and I will let you guess what.

okay then. I'll answer again:

yes as sure as can be from reading an article in the science section of a Berlin newspaper. The same that mentions the results of the ESA citizen debate being online available now.
