Manfrotto 029 DELUXE THREE-WAY PAN HEAD
I can get a new one of these for just over $100 off the net but would like to know whether anyone has seen or used it. To mount on the ed80 to attach the canon 350D with the 200mm L series lens.. it says most weight it can take is 7kgs?

:) good price....I use the standard Manfrotto RC114 three way head with my 20x80 binoculars {3kg} no problems
I had a quick look Dave, looks OK.
Good price.
The other alternative is to use a ball-head which is what I've changed over to now.
Actually if you remember, I used it at SPSP when we did the Antares shot.

Benro (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showpost.php?p=160390&postcount=1)make very nice ball heads that also pan and are more strudy than the manfrotto items. I have the KJ-0 model rated to 8KG, the KJ-1 and 2 are rated to 12Kg & 18KG respectively. I went with the Benro after reading reports of flex in the manfrotto items.

Hi Houghy,
I have a Manfrotto,029 head bought off ebay,fairly cheaply,I think about $38.00 all up.
I bought it for my 20x80 Binoculars,BUT,Havent used it yet,as I dont have a tripod, that would handle it,with the Binos.
I am Sure it will handle the ED80,no problems at all.
It is Very solid,Blows away the tripod head the 20x80's are mounted on at the moment,ESPECIALLY,if the lightweight tripod was extended.

Only place I know of is from "Link Delight" via ebay. That's where I got mine. The problem you may have is that while the head is solid the mounting point on the ED80 may not be firm enough. If you're feeling extravagent they also have some nice carbon fibre tripods....
