Orion Nebula 2 mins at 30 second subs unguided in between too many clouds here.
with my newly modified EOS 650D
Ben
the nebula looks oddly out of focus, blurred and without any detail?
yet the stars look ok?
what happened?

I suspect clouds. We were heavily overcast here with threat of thunderstorms. I just wanted to test out how the filter mod went. Could also a bit of processing bluriness.
Now waiting on a cloud free night to really get it going.

You must be excited to try out the new filter mod in clear dark skies. Is it a full spectrum mod or astro mod?

just the astro mod.. i removed the lpf2 filter only. i only use for astro work so didnt bother looking at replacing with clear glass or anything for the autofocus.
Im not sure if theres any benefit to me to remove the front filter.
at some stage soon ill need a light polution cip in filter as well.
as for excitement definitely.. just looking at a few short exposures comparing the the before and afters.. looks very promising.

Good start Ben,
with 2 mins, you should be able to tease out a bit more detail. M42 is a very bright DSO.

hopefully this weekend i can get a ton more data as its supposed to be fine so i can try out a few different iso and time settings.
theres more in that image that i killed but that was ok.. was good for a personal comparison on some of my other images.
Ben
yes.
I compared it with your 45 secs frame (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/attachment_browse.php?a=206674) you posted on Nov 10.
That's a really detailed (and lovely color!) one.
Now I understand that this new quick n dirty post is really justto proof that the mod went well.
Congrats on that! :)
