I'm getting 2 new (second hand) lenses, from Mr Terry Lovejoy! (CometGuy).
A Canon 50mm f/1.8 and Canon 28mm f/2.8, both for a very good price.
Can't wait to try them out on the 350D, for both widefield astro on the EQ platform as well as portrait shots.
Finally something to fill up my new LowePro bag ;)
Thanks Terry, looking forward to trying them out!

To show what they can do in the hands of an expert, here's 2 fantastic shots of Machholz by Terry:
- with the 50mm f/1.8 at 1.8:

Oh also, the 50mm f/1.8 is the MK I version, not the MK II - apparently it has stronger build quality and more consistently good optics.

Mike,
Your going to have fun! The 50 1.8 is a very nice lens and its also great for portraits :)
My main use for that lens was for comet hunting, however the focal length proved too short for that task especially with increased competition with others (including the new STEREO solar mission). Now I am using 200 and 300 mm lenses to try and have some hope of finding something ahead of others!
The 28 2.8 was purchased as a kit that came with the 50 (which also included a zoom and a Canon 630). The first thing you notice is how small and light it is, it hardly extends past the flash on the 350D so makes an ideal walkaround lens. Incidentally the combined weight of the 28 and 50 lenses is problably less than his Sigma 17-70!
There are plenty of examples from these lenses on my webpage.
Anyway enough of my rambling I have a box to go and post :)

Mike,
Are you holding on to your Sigma 17-70mm lens?

Sure am John. The 17-70 will be my multi-purpose walkabout lens.
The new 50mm and 28mm will be for portraits and widefield deep-space stuff.
btw I took some shots of the kids on the weekend with the new lenses, will post some over the next few days. Nice little lenses, very tiny and very sharp! :)
