Horsehead with ASI1600mm

Hi there all.

I know it's not going to win any awards.
A lot to fix with it. Particularly the star shape. Have to adust the position of the camera lens. That will all work out in the end.

Also I know the colours aren't great. The green is horrid due to dud flats.

BUT, it is a test of what the ASI 1600mm is capable of.

RGB subs 2 minutes, about 3 hours of each.
Ha subs 5 minutes, about 3 hours
All taken at unity gain, cooled to -20

FL is approximately 450mm through my sigma 150-500mm lens at f6.5

Full calibration (albeit dodgy in some places) applied.

Some minor sharpening, contrast enhancement and noise removal through Astraimage PSCS6 plugin.

Anyway, enough self degredation, please provide your feedback!

Nice first effort Scott. The Sigma lense is, of course, producing some CA fringing on the stars, not much you can do about that, other than using a filter like the Baader 'Fringe Killer' . The curtain wall behind the horse has nice detail, coming from the Ha no doubt.

Thanks one and all. This current rig is soooooo much easier to use than the massive 11000. Really helps when you aren't spending your time fighting with the gear and instead actually using it!

I have taken your advice and shifted the Red channel to further along the blue part of the spectrum. Cropped it a bit and the new result is attached !

Your mild self-flagellation at your image's apparent shortcomings is the reason I can't see myself ever getting into astrophotography - both these pics look great to my (very untrained) eye, and I'd be very pleased indeed to produce something even half as good, given the steep learning curve that AP seems to require. I like the full-on in-your-face look of the first image.

you could try Startools, which has a gold standard process for fixing star shapes - would probably tidy up most of the odd shape problems. My wife has one of the Sigma zooms, maybe I should sneak it out one night - looks like it works OK

Thanks dunk. Technically logan. About 30 km from brisbane cbd. But a 2 inch cls filter Blu tacked into the imaging train helps! :D

The cls filter works really well. Used to be able to pull 10 minute rgb subs with the old camera . But no need for those length subs with this camera
