Although at two different times of the day, and different time frames I found these two images quite interesting,
No 1 early morning shot just before sunrise....No 2 about 12 noon, it was like as if a blanket was being dragged across the blue sky.

fine clouds you show here,
and jjnetties “stealth bomber” remembered me,
that I also have seen lately a proper cloud formation
meteorologists named it a “lenticular cloud”, I think.

btw jnettie,
I wonder what a fan you are
who or what is RAH ?
I found by wiki:

RAH being the initials for Richard Anthony Hewson. In 1977 Hewson wrote an instrumental (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instrumental) called "The Crunch", which was a huge success and climbed to number 6 in the UK Singles Chart (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UK_Singles_Chart)

is it right?

jjjnettie
26-01-2007, 05:50 PM
RAH as in Robert Anson Heinlein.
The BEST Science Fiction writer ever, except maybe Douglas Adams.

Your cloud looks a little like the Star Ship Enterprise!!

I'd passed over this thread a few times thinking it was just a place to winge about clouds obscuring the wonders of the heavens, little realising there were some great pictures here!

Maybe it should be re-named 'Cloud photography'?

Anyway, here's three of an ominous-looking storm front that passed over Bondi on 2 Dec 2005 ... amazingly without much rain or wind if I recall correctly.

jjjnettie
27-01-2007, 10:50 PM

I had to post this cheezy pic of the sydney opera house...I just missed the brilliant glow of the last rays of the sun lighting up these clouds from below (parking the car etc) - they looked a fantastic pink and orange/red as I raced down there, but I made this shot anyway, with a little point n shoot digital camera stuck on a big heavy tripod...

Hi friends,
just I’m back from a litle stroll around my ranch,

( 6 m above parking place) have taken a fine cloudy sunset shot
and will post it for you immediately :)

and too a sunset from yesterday morning pictured from the same position
if you look thorough (http://dict.tu-chemnitz.de/dings.cgi?o=3021;service=deen;iserv ice=en-de;query=thorough) on the horizon,
you will discover the spire of the church in our small town.

This a view from my front porch which faces south, very tranquil. I hope nobody minds but I've slipped in three extra pics of clouds taken in my travels. One is Mt Piper power station near Lithgow (man made clouds perhaps), e-frog (also man made clouds) in Sydney some years ago and the building with the reflected clouds is at Circular Key (one of my all time favourite photos for some reason or other).

RB
21-04-2007, 10:04 AM
Thank you, yes it was very eerie.
I took this with the Canon 20Da which captures more of the reds, but that night there was already an unusual amount of red/purple light reflecting in the clouds from the moonlight.
I don't know why, perhaps there was a lot of dust or particles in the atmosphere.

I see a few others have tried to slightly hijack the thread with lightning rather than cloud shots, in which case I'd like to show off some shots I took of the big storm over Sydney on 4 March this year.

All photos taken from the window of our apartment. You can see the SCG and Aussie Stadium in the foreground.

Here's a photo I took ages ago through a car window of a 22 degree solar halo.

It's been slightly enhanced with curves, it adds an interesting effect and makes the halo stand out as it was quite dim. It's a lower quality photo due to the forum's size limit. I think the clouds on one side and the tree on the other add a nice touch.

Jarrod

i know what that is! its an invisable space ship!

the "feather cloud" is water vapour forming around it's hull as a result of heat being generated by the CCS or 'Colour Correction System' that they use to mimic the background sky. This ship must also have an onboard SLB or 'Static Light Bender' that cause's the sun's light to bend around the ship. the US govourment has been trying to use the technology. the US have super computers scanning the internet for refrences to this technology, so when one find's this message it'll pose as an IIS member and reply to it with a " " so you all think im joking, or a " :screwy: " so you all think im crazy.

the truth is out there.
