Hi everyone,

Whilst every Victorian ASV member must be at Vic South, there were a couple of us at LMDSS in Heathcote this weekend.

Luminance channel of NGC 253 taken on Oct 29, 2016 from Heathcote Victoria with a 12.5" f/5 telescope and a Zwo ASI 174mm cooled camera. 60 x 3 minute exposures giving a total exposure of 180 minutes (3 hours). 30 equivalent Darks and Flats. Captured with MaximDL and proceed with Deep Sky Stacker and Photoshop CS3.

Reasonably happy so far but would be nice to also add RGB data.

Clear skies.

That's an excellent return on your time John, and RGB would make a killer image.
Really impressive.

Not bad, not bad at all.

But it needs better/wider framing....looks too "letter-boxed" IMHO.

Nice depth, and good res.

Stick with it

That is some nice looking luminance! Looking forward to the RGB version :)

Thanks Colin.

Thanks Peter. The 174mm has a small chip so a tough one to frame without the box look with this object.

Thanks Tervor - let's see what this crazy weather does next new moon!

No Ha filter. The ASV's LMDSS site in Heathcote is excellent given it's only 1.5 hours North of Melbourne. I guess it also helps with NGC253 being really high up.

Very nice indeed.

We don't mind the tight framing - it's all there - but one way to get round tight framing is to do a mosaic. If you bolt the camera on the right way (so that the main galaxy is at a rakish but not impertient angle) it might need only be a two panel mosaic. The main galaxy gets data from all frames, and the edges get data from only half of them. (We have the same problem with NGC 55).

Very nice work John - your experience with planetary is shining through with the high res processing.
