For those of you that are close to the northern beaches area of Sydney, I'm wondering if anyone has attended the observation nights hosted by Astronomyonline. They are usually on a Friday evening.

They seem to come around every month, but whenever the weather is clear I have other committments, and when I'm free the weather is lousy.

Are they worthy of perservering with trying to get there?

Hi Andy

Where do you live?

We're having a meet at Kulnura (1hr north of sydney) on Saturday night - much darker skies and great company.

Hi Mike,

Dag nab it!

Just read your post.

I live near Collaroy. I'd be interested to hear of any further get togethers around these traps. Like you say, Kulnura isn't too far away.

I hope the bushfires haven't affected the seeing like they seem to have down here...:(

Can't see any stars at night at the moment, high cloud every night.

The next Kulnura get-together is on the 16th December - keep an eye out for the thread!

Sorry for not replying earlier to this. We went to an AstronomyOnline night in April this year at Mona Vale headland. I found out about it on AstronomyOnline's website and realised we'd be in Sydney at that time. We enjoyed it. It started at dusk with Fred Watson and David Malin jointly giving an entertaining and informative talk and answering questions then there was viewing through telescopes that AstronomyOnline brought along (a couple of Celestron 14's and 11's) plus a few smaller scopes (all Celestrons) brought by some members of a club AstronomyOnline are associated with. It lasted a couple of hours. Pretty light polluted compared to Canberra but we're always interested in looking through telescopes.
