Well I didn't think I'd get this much out of it but it worked! The scope was nearly horizontal, any lower and it would have been cropped by my neighbours roof across the street!

Although not the "king" of the large visible galaxies it's easily the most classic. Glad to have got a result this year.

Beautiful image ! As a live imager and non-astrophotographer can I ask a dumb question.

When you guys say 46x 2min RGB does that mean 46x 2min R, then ditto for G & B ? Or is it 46x 2min total.

Just trying to get my head around the total exposure duration involved.

Typically they would break it out separately, though it get's tedious it is useful on forums like this where people care to know, otherwise I sometimes just say "total integration time" and I don't include the subs I might have thrown away in that total either.

In this case however, I'm using a colour CCD so when I say 46 x 2 mins RGB I literally mean 46 colour exposures at 120 seconds each.

I got some Ha too with the mono cam but haven't tried mixing into this as this one turned out pretty nicely by itself anyway.

Very nice Dylan! It is not a target I'd ever attempt with a max altitude of ~11°. Difficult to get over the teee line under the best of circumstances ;)

Here is a crappy phone photo of the scope at it's highest on Andromeda, my very obstructed corner, and the light pollution I deal with (although stretched here, it's not this bright). You can see the streetlight I have to turn off with the laser too, heh.

Good estimate! 21deg at it's highest. Started and finished image run around 18 degrees.

Hi Dylan,
great pic,
I'd love to even see it through a telescope -
I've never seen it as it's too low in the sky from Melbourne.
Next time I head up to QLD or Darwin I'll take my large binoculars.

Thanks all! I've had a stab at the Veil Nebula and North America Nebula with some success too. I'd previously just written the whole region off but it's actually quite entertaining this time of year, some nice targets though non-typical for us antipodeans.
