Hi to all
Sorry to post a reprocess so soon but I thought this was rather better than the original. I also noticed a blue dot just to the right of the main nebula which I thought looked like a planetary nebula. My planetary nebula authority in the UK says that is indeed the case and it is a SMC planetary nebula. The designation is LHA 115-N 70. He also said the cataloged diameter is .38"! I find it rather surprising to have picked up something this small but it seems to be real.
I've included a 200% crop showing the planetary.
Cheers
Steve

really cool steve, don't know of too many PN's in other galaxies! it really pops out.

Thanks Russ. Must admit I was a bit skeptical because it just looks too prominent but I think it's right. Perhaps this indicates that Hubble palette images are a good way to find planetaries.

excellent image and interesting to boot with a tiny PN - nice work.

Thanks Mike. I've got a better one in preparation that shows detail in the dark areas much better. Incidentally I'm not convinced about that PN being in the SMC as it looks too big and bright but I haven't had time to research it.

That looks very good Steve. Very nice details.

Steve, for the well intentioned but colourblind viewers, could you please post a thumbnail with an arrow pointing at the planetary? I can't find it.

Sorry - I'll look at doing that. Got lazy I guess. It's the blue dot on the right of the main nebula about half way to the edge of the frame.
Thanks Marc

Nice rendition of NGC346, Steve. I'll be interested to hear how your research on the PN goes.
Cheers,
Rick.

Thanks Rick. Have to admit I haven't done much yet. All I can find is that the diameter is apparently .38 arcsec and that the finder chart for it seems to match the blue dot in my image.
