View Full Version here: : Evolution of sunspot 923 over 3 days

Hello,

Here is a 3 pane composite of Sunspot 923 on 11th, 12th & 13th November 2006. Each image is a single raw frame from the avi of that day, no processing was applied due to the fragility of the “thin” data in each frame. And yes Mike, an animation will follow some time later!

Cheers

Nice shoot'n Tex  It's amazing how the rift at the top of the first one budded off to form those outliers.

I don't suppose you have shots for each hour :)

Yep, it definitely needs to be an animation, and every hour as my learned companion suggest.

Excellent work (as usual!) Dennis!

Did you happen to get another one today? I was looking at it about 5:00pm today with the PST and it looked like the spot was splitting in 2... ...hard to tell... I'd say I was 75% sure the spot had divided - it was very close to the limitations of the PST I think (so of course there's a risk I talked myself into it! ;)

Incredible imaging Denis. Can I ask the dumb question?
Where does one get the sunspot numbering from?
cheers,

Doug

Hi Doug

I just visit Spaceweather (http://spaceweather.com/) and look at what is visible in the solar panel on the LHS.

Thanks Paul! I looked in the AVI animator for a function for fading one day's spot into the next, to avoid the sudden change between frames, but alas could not find such a feature. :(

Hello, Boys

If you're both nice to me, I just might dress up again in the telegizmo tripod smock and prance around the observing paddock to a green laser light show...

BTW, just out of interst and because this thread is about the sunspot :P  I just had a quick look through the Binos. Is it my imagination or is 923 substantially bigger today? (no chance of me imaging it though, my tripod carrierouta has gone to work. That and it's blowing about 6 billion knots here today. I'd say we are in for a doozey of a thunderstorm this arvo)

Hi Paul

A thunder and hail storm just passed through so no viewing for me today. Hopefully tomorrow will produce better conditions. It would be nice to see these dramatic changes!

Cheers
