Actually the part of the country where the picture is taken is quite
a way from Lake Eyre - probably around a 650km walk.

The Burke and Georgina Rivers converge south of the remote outback
town of Bouila in Queensland, around 350km north of Birdsville.

I've flown into Birdsville a couple of times and the Channel Country
from 7000' is spectacular, but definitely not a place you would want
to have an engine failure. It looks like the surface of another world.
A vast and intimidating place, without communications, they would
have a hard time spotting you in an aerial search.

Thanks for the clarification Gary. I haven't been outback QLD much but visiting Australia is on my bucket list. I'm planning to go all over the place when I retire. So many places to go and visit.

Woomera is not to far from the lakes. The explorers way safari does cover from port Augusta to Darwin. I have returned home with over 2000 photos, good memories and plenty of red bull dust. (I forgot to mention the many happy hours - too many for a non drinker and not old enough to be a grey nomad)

I was at Lake Eyre during the 2011 floods. Absolutely stunning scenery.

Very nice spot. Is that from earlier this month? I would love go back with water surrounding the island.. it was partially surrounded in 2014 when I took this shot.

Hi Colin, No it was from June this year. We would love to go back and spend more time in that area.

Thanks. You can access the lake via a "not too rough" 4x4 track. Walking to the island is possible, but hard if muddy. I've been out twice. You can also walk to another larger island much further out.. around 15 km - take a tent and supplies and camp overnight. Both otherworldly.
