Another rushed image. Only got one clear night and it was transiting after sunset. Seeing was not very good either.

Details:
Telescope: 12.5" PlaneWave
Camera: Proline 16803
Exposure: 2.2 hours
Processing: PixInsight;
FOV: 49' x 49'

The whole nebula is huge and this is only a small part of it. Maybe a mosaic...?

Sh2-54 is an extended bright emission nebula on the border of Scutum and Serpens
There are many protostars in its core and many infrared sources; some of these sources are very young high-mass stars. The older star population in this region has an average age of 4-5 million years, and its components are grouped in the open cluster NGC 6604.

I like it. A lot of interesting nebula going on there.

Greg.

There is a lot of mebulosity in that area, love all of the colour!!

That's a great and interesting field Geoff, nice job, despite the less than optimal attack

Nicely done Geoff.

This area of nebulosity with the OC NGC 6604 has been on my imaging list for the past two winters - sadly without opportunity to do so. Hopefully Melbourne's weather next winter will be kinder.

Lots of subtle variation in the nebulosity nicely brought out.

Assuming its not sacrilege, would you consider doing another companion version stretched much less and processed just to show the main stars? The main cluster looks rich, and there are enough orange and yellow stars scattered about to give interest. Could work.

Nice job on an interesting field Geoff. More data would yield a richer result of course but sky conditions do need to cooperate! Fingers crossed for next month!

Thanks Greg. In fact it gets even more interesting in parts beyond the FOV captured here. Definitely needs a mosaic.

Thanks Colin. It was quite difficult bringing out the colour with limited G and B data.

Thanks Mike.

Thanks Paul. Good luck with it.

OK Mike, I'll give it a go, but not immediately. I'm currently minding grandchildren, then it's the weekend and I don't generally process then.

Thanks Marcus. I may be able to get something next month but it'll be pushing it as the target will get too low soon after twilight.

Some really nice colors in that field. Seeing has been abysmal lately.

Mike, is the attached thumbnail the sort of thing that you had in mind?

Thanks Marc

That's a very interesting nebulous area well captured Geoff. Clearly it would benefit from more data but what you have is okay. Parts of it look a little green on my monitor (unless it's my eyes) so maybe a little HLVG would help too.

Cheers

Hi Geoff,

I had this object on my list for wide field narrowband imaging but this small region looks excellent at longer FL in LRGB, even as a quickie. A mosaic is a great idea.

Cheers,
Rick.
