47 Tucanae / NGC104

I have not posted recently due to travel and weather. But, I did manage to squeeze this one in. I found guiding on this to be harder than expected. And, after the fact I discovered that the dovetail connecting the flattener on the TEC180 had slipped a bit. Stars in the corner, especially lower left are a bit wonky.

20 luminance and 60 RGB all 3 minutes. As usual I used the TEC180 for luminance and the TEC140 for RGB, and used Optec's FocusLock on both OTAs.

Super sharp.

I like the sense that amongst the brighter stars, there are rays and streamers of stars, with slightly darker bays between, of the sort that SJ O'Meara talks about and visual observers see. Conversely, you've captured a very fine sprinkling of faint stars going out to great distance.

Just having another look at this and I have to say... it is quite faithful to the visual view through a big dob and nice wide eyepiece :thumbsup:

I get a true 1º field with an 18" @ 2552mm using an N31T5 and it is just like this image..

Forgive me for not thanking each one of you individually! Your kind comments mean a lot because I actually spent the better part of a week processing and reprocessing this image.

I appreciate the comments about the colour because I was rather worried about it. I compared it to many images on line and quite a lot show a rather orange or greenish core. The later I was rather sure wasn't correct, but I'm not too sure of the blueish look as I found only one other similar image. It does look pretty sharp....at times I thought too sharp. The only sharpening I did was a very mild deconvolution on the luminance. Noise Ninja actually seemed to sharpen it as well which I'd never seen before. I usually need to protect bright areas from bluring with that filter.

Very classy image. There is something very special about how a fine refractor captures Globular Clusters. They seem to sparkle much as they do in the eyepiece. Nice one.
