A new project, revisiting an old favourite with the widefield 'scope.
Inspired by an image of Bert's (Avondonk) from a few years ago, this is a test on NGC 2070 to see if I could isolate most of the nebula in context, with the new ST70t.
Pretty poor seeing and just 4x30mins each of HA, O3 & S2 but enough to get a feel for the image to come. Also with the poor run of weather, I'll take what I can get right now :)
My plan is to go VERY deep on this, hopefully at Snake Valley Astrocamp at the end of this month.
I'm keen to reveal more of the tendrils below the spider itself, so I'm probably looking at 30+hrs on this. Will see how it goes :D

That's showing up really nice right now Andy! In love with your FOV! Really need to get myself a KAF-16803 for a wider view ;)

Oh such a tease! Would love to see the big one. That is already looking spectacular.
Don't go too deep. The strength of the image as it stands is that it shows the main large-scale structure, which is very beautiful.

Lol, Cheers Colin - widefield is fun :)
Here you go Mike - http://www.astrobin.com/full/264040/0/
Remember it's just a wip and the processing is a bit rough so don't pixel peep too closely! :D

A lovely capture of the delicate filaments and globs of nebulosity that permeate this region. Will be interesting to see where you go with this.

Thanks Mike, yes I'm a bit exited about this one - hoping for clear skies over Snake Valley = I have a fancy new 3nm N2 Astrodon filter to play with as well - woohoo!
Stay tuned, hoping to bring forward more of those fabulous filaments ;)
Cheers mate :)
Fingers crossed Rick :D

Echoing others - your teaser looks very promising Andy
This is definitely one of my favourite areas and I will certainly have another go at it one day.
Do you reckon moving the image 100 pixels down and 200 pixels to the left would allow to reveal a tad more in the top /top-right corner?
