A very 1st capture of this 'hard to find' bird/owl on friends property, SE Qld.
Taken with 'L' 70-200 @200 from approx 10m away !
Hope worth a squizz,,,

Lovely detail, and well caught Bob.
Amazing how effective the greys are as camouflage in a green tree too.
Well done.

Brilliant detail Bob,rare to find these birds with their eyes open during the day.
Great catch.
The Tawny Frogmouth is in fact a member of the Night Jar family and not an Owl as such
Owles have their eyes on the front of their face, with the large bowl shaped eye surrounds used to amplify sound as part of their direction finding properties to catch their prey.
Cheers:thumbsup:

Cheers Trevor, I looked 3 times before recognising it wasn't a branch stump, being twice the thickness seemed puzzling initially !

Thanx Tim, for once the 200mm lens stayed steady in portrait mode

Cheers Ron - the Night Jar family huh, keool and ta for the extra info
And yes, it wasn't until the eye opened that I was then sure this stump was alive :D
