GStar EX

Hi all,
I purchased a secondhand telescope a few months ago and the previous owner threw in what I believe to be an original GStar EX. Does anyone have any experience with these, or even still use them. I imagine that they have been totally superseded by now. I don't have any instructions or software with it but it looks like I have all the cables. It looks like I can plug it into a television and view what the telescope is seeing. Is it as simple as that? To be honest that would be about all I would be interested in doing with it at some point as I have other webcams/cameras for imaging purposes.

Greg go to astroshop they have all the literature on how to use them and set them up .And yes people still use them .I use one to image the Sun and view live on screen .And if you really want to see what they are capable of visit Steve Quirks website his research and observations are worth viewing.Also makes a good low light security camera.

I've been using the gstars for many years and they are fantastic.

They aren't really imaging cameras in an astrophotography sense, but superb for scientific work (Occultations in my case) and as outreach tools where you can go out into the field with a TV or projector and show people live(ish) stuff that they would never normally see.

I'll give a +1 for video cameras. I have had two GStar cams, and currently use a TACOS 910BD and a Point Grey digital.

For outreach they cannot be beat. With these cams I can see galaxies from Western Sydney (near Penrith) where the light pollution is terrible.

For occultations (as with Jonathan) they are indispensable.
