Omega Nebula
Nikon D3300
GSO 8" f/5
NEQ6 unguided

36 x 45-second subs stacked in DSS, again with no flats or darks - just wanted to make sure the new OTA was working as it should, with CC in place. Looks like all is okay.

I took 60 subs but the mount is doing its weird thing again and slipping backwards slightly every 7 mins or so, despite a recent strip-down and re-grease. Hand-picked the duds and threw them out.

Next step: guiding. Hoping that will sort out the mount's weirdness. Aiming to be guiding by the end of the month.

Nice, Darks and flat will go a long way to improving your images. it will allow you to stretch the data a lot more. especially on those dim targets

You're absolutely right - I didn't fully realise how much of a difference they make! Here's a vastly superior version.

Same as below except with 30 flats, 30 darks and a master bias (I think using 20 frames) applied.

Well that makes me feel better, was getting a little despondent with the new rig...

That's much better Chris.
I assume you stretched it more, rather than doing everything the same, just with the flats etc.
Regardless, it's very nice now
Cheers

Yeah with flats, darks etc applied there was a lot more data to be stretched. It came out of DSS looking far better, and the editing process beyond that was a lot more pleasant.
