As the title suggests, I am planning a short Astro Trip tomorrow morning to escape the rain that appears to be plaguing most of SE Australia. Been checking various weather sites and this has pointed me towards Bega, NSW.
I have decided to undertake an astro project that should be completed in 1-2 moonless nights so I am taking the latter half of this week off to complete it.
So, where is a good place to setup around the Bulla area?

Colin,
The only Bulla I can find is between Wilcannia and Cobar. That can't be where you mean???

My bad, wrong cheese place! I meant Bega! Basically around the VIC/NSW coast, looks like there is going to be a clear patch there tomorrow night.

You gonna hate me! I had a ripper sky at ASV on Sunday night. No company either!

Colin have you looked at the BOM Sat photos and the developing east coast low - right on top of Bega - the rain capital of NSW. The four day prognostic chart does not look good for you. The forecast has heavy rain developing right through Saturday. You would be better off heading for Mildura as it might clear out there.

Had kinda clear skies in Melbourne Sunday night, seeing was terrible though.

This is the current forecast for 4am Thursday morning. May head a bit further north.

Okay, heading to Swan Hill region today! Haven't been up there in yonks! I know I've been there because my parents have said so but I don't remember the place.
Does anyone know of a nice place to set up camp for a night of imaging?

The river west of Swan Hill is (or was when I was there a year ago) a free camping area for miles. There are basic long-drop toilets at several locations but no water. It's river country so you'd need to spend some time checking out a number of sites to find one with reasonable sky access and not too many fellow-campers. But it's a very pleasant part of the river and an easy place to send a few days.

You may need to add a helicopter to your astro-accessories Colin :)

Thanks Peter, I'll have a look at WikiCamps (LOVE the App for information) to see what camping sites are around there.
Still too slow, give me a spot to spot teleporter any day!
